Divorce after cheating can do more than destroy the family that you've worked so hard to create. It can also leave its own unique brand of financial devastation in its wake. The best way to avoid this financial ruin is to find a way to forgive the cheating and work together to build a new future together. Sometimes that is not possible. Here are a few things you can do to try to relieve the debt madness and financial hardships that often accompany divorce.

1) Work together as two people who have a vested interested in working things out rather than two people who are hurt, angry, and more than a little bitter. Lawyers feed the anger, hurt, and bitterness. Avoid using them to help you make financial decisions whenever possible. If you feel that you cannot put your personal feelings aside, consider hiring a mediator for the sake of both your financial futures (and that of any children the two of you have together).

2) Consolidate debt as much as possible and then divide the assets. This often means that painful decisions need to be made about homes, automobiles, and other assets. The bottom line is that you're going to be dividing salaries while facing the sudden need to establish and maintain two separate households. It's a huge and sometimes overwhelming task. You do not need the additional burden of unnecessary expenses holding you back and causing even more tension, fear, and/or uncertainty for your financial futures.

3) Separate not only assets but also debt as part of the divorce proceedings. This is important because you can become financially responsible for debt that you no longer have any say in at all. This includes large and small debts that could reflect on your credit in the future. If you can't consolidate to pay off that debt then you need to make sure it is clearly defined who is now responsible for that debt.

4) Be aware that joint debt remains a joint responsibility in spite of divorce. Even if you've done your part to repay the debt, if your ex spouse does not repay the debt or makes consistently late repayments then the credit card companies are likely to come after you for that debt.

Debt management and division of assets during a divorce are only surpassed by child custody issues when it comes to divisiveness. It's important to take every possible precaution to protect your financial situation today and in the future so that you can avoid the financial devastation of a divorce after cheating.

Of course there is always the possibility that you can get your ex back. This will not only help on an emotional level but also a financial one.

You should never use financial reasons alone to save your marriage but if there is still love in your marriage this can be yet another reason to make it work. Watch this free video => http://www.getyourexbacknow.com/just_break_up3.html to find out how.
