Money matters in relationships a great deal. Arguments over money are the leading cause of breakups and divorces worldwide. This means that money is a universal problem in today's relationships.

If you want to save your relationship the pain of a breakup or you're trying to get your ex back after a breakup over money then you'll want to pay attention to these small steps you can take to get your spending and debt under control.

• Get rid of all your credit cards. You can keep one low interest card for emergencies but you need to pay it off each and every month. To work toward that goal you need to eliminate all your other credit cards once and for all. Pay them off, cut them up, and never revisit those costly accounts again. Credit card interest rates can be lethal and create a never ending credit nightmare if you aren't careful. It's an easy trap to fall into and one that takes time and careful planning to get out of.
• Set priorities for your finances. Each time you receive a paycheck pay your bills first, pay extra payments for credit cards or to get out of debt next, and then you give yourself an allowance to spend for necessities and pleasure. Set your bills to auto draft from your account whenever possible. It will save you from unnecessary fees and the need to buy stamps plus it will ensure that your bills are getting paid before anything else is being done each month.

• Get rid of experiences for luxury items. It's great to enjoy life's luxuries but when you can't afford them it's time to stop getting them. Get rid of cable; axe your expensive mobile phone plan for a no-frills pre-paid phone plan instead. Stop hitting Starbucks, learn to do your own Mani Pedi, and turn the thermostat up a little in the summer and down a little in the winter. Small changes can net big savings. Giving up one $5 cup of coffee a day can save you $1825 a year. Giving up a $100 cable bill will save you $1200 a year. Those savings can be applied to credit card bills, car loans, and student loans for huge savings over time.
• Take a second job to help you get out of debt. Nothing will show him you're serious faster than this. Giving up free time and taking on the additional responsibilities of a second job is a huge step towards financial stability that he'll recognize for what it is.

You can get your ex back after money problems have torn your relationship apart. Getting your finances in order is a HUGE first step. But, there's one more thing you're going to have to do to make your relationship work this time around. Watch this free video: http://www.magicofmakingup.com/ to learn what it is.
