Many people are surprised to find that the number one cause for discontent in marriages, around the world, is not infidelity or anything nearly as big and dramatic as that. It's something that all couples struggle with to some degree.

It's money management. In a world where the economy is struggling, this is becoming a bigger and bigger problem to tackle for families today. That's why it's more important than ever before to tame your household budget in 2012. This will help you have a happier marriage and give you a little breathing room with the family budget. Here are a few areas where you can cut costs.

Eliminate Unnecessary Subscriptions

Subscriptions are often the blind little expenses we ignore. The problem is, they add up over time. Cable bills can come in at over $100 a month as can mobile phone bills. Do you really need all the coverage you're paying for? Many great television shows are available to watch free online. Libraries often offer full seasons of favorite shows to check out free. Mobile phone plans can be downsized and minimized, or eliminated altogether in favor of "pay as you go plans" that cost much less.

If you save $50 a month on your cable and cellular plans that's $1,200 over the course of a year. For most people, that's a house payment. Now, imagine if you eliminate all of the coffee flavor of the month, book of the month, and magazine subscriptions that come out to around $10 or $20 a month? They seem like pocket change at the time but over the year these costs can add up too. Get rid of them if they aren't something you really need.

Lower Energy Bills

Utilities can be brutal. You have to have power, water, and gas in order to function. However, the bills can be brutal. There are things you can do to keep them lower though. You just have to be willing to do the work.

Lower your water bill by using rain collection barrels for watering your lawn. Run the dishwasher once a day. Conserve water in the shower by turning the water off while soaping up and turning it back on to rinse.

Cut the cost of natural gas by setting the thermostat two degrees lower than usual in the winter and covering up with blankets and hoodies while in the house.

Lower your electric bill by unplugging electronic chargers when they aren't in use as well as LCD televisions, switching to compact fluorescent light bulbs, and investing in motion sensor switches that automatically turn off if no one has been in the room for a while.

Use Coupons to cut Costs on Groceries

Groceries are expensive and costs are on the rise. It can be blamed on many things but many families have recently discovered they are paying as much each month for groceries and food as they are for their mortgages or rent. It's time to tame those costs and get them under control.

Using coupons strategically allows you to do just that. Of course, there is a little more to it than simply whipping out your Sunday paper coupon book but when you combine coupons with sales, plan your weekly menu, and shop with a list (don't forget to leave your husband and kids at home for this part), you'll find that you spend a lot less on groceries over the course of a month.

Money worries and concerns can take a big toll on marriages today. You can still enjoy the luxuries in life while living on a budget if you understand that the additional costs for those luxuries has to come somewhere. These great tips will help you keep your household budget under control so you can focus on getting your marriage back in shape or even learn how to get your ex back if it's come to that.
